Hello hello! I’m back this week with the rest of my 2018 reading list! I’ve worked hard to curate this list for me to read this year, and I’m hoping that many of you are participating as well. It’s a great way to diversify your reading, even though many of the books I’ve chosen are pretty much what I normally read! But there are a few books on my list that are completely out of the box for me. Which is a good thing. I don’t read a lot outside of my comfort zone! So, without further ado, here is my POPSUGAR Reading Challenge #4!
POPSUGAR Reading Challenge #4
A Book Mentioned in Another Book
This one I haven’t figured out yet. I can’t seem to find a book I want to read for this prompt! Plus, I am finding it extremely difficult to remember books that are mentioned in other books. I guess I can go with a classic, since many of them have been featured in other books. Do any of you have good suggestions for me? Let me know in the comments below!
A Book From a Celebrity Book Club
I recently ordered the Kindle version of The Alice Network before realizing that Reese Witherspoon had a celebrity book club. Regardless, I wanted to read this book for some time and it just happened to fit into this prompt perfectly! I don’t typically read books BECAUSE they’re part of a celebrity book club, but I do take a look every now and then to a few of my favorites (like Reese Witherspoon and Emma Watson). Sometimes you’ll find a gem of a book! It’s also historical fiction, which is my super favorite, so it’s the perfect choice fo me!
A Childhood Classic You’ve Never Read
Okay, I know you’re all thinking, “She didn’t read A Wrinkle in Time?!?!” Let me clarify: I have read it. But it was many, many years ago. When doing some research on this challenge, I found it very difficult to find a childhood classic that I haven’t read. The Secret Garden, A Little Princess, Alice in Wonderland, I’ve read them all! There were some that I found that I didn’t read, but I know I want to reread A Wrinkle in Time before the movie comes out in March. Since it’s my list, I chose it regardless of my reading it in the past. Because that’s how I roll!
A Book That’s Published in 2018
The English Wife was released on January 9th, and Book of the Month offered it to subscribers. I’m still kicking myself for not ordering it! Essentially, if a thriller and a historical fiction novel had a baby, it would be The English Wife. Since I LOVE both historical fiction and thriller, I knew I had to read this book. So I plan on taking it out at the library. I’m trying to not buy too many books (yeah, right…) so I’ll try my luck later in the year after it’s been out for some time!
A Past Goodreads Choice Award Winner
I read my first Neil Gaiman book this year (American Gods) and proceeded to explore his other writing (Norse Mythology). He has a unique voice that I love, and I’ve already chosen to read Coraline in an earlier prompt. I’m really excited to check out this book. To be honest, I haven’t read the synopsis and I don’t think I want to. I think I’d rather go in blind and just hope for the best. But, like I said, I haven’t read a Neil Gaiman book that I haven’t liked so far!
A Book Set in the Decade You Were Born
I’ve made it my mission to read as much Stephen King as I can! I’ve seen the movie version of The Mist and I just wasn’t a fan. I was also hesitant on trying out the TV series until it was canceled. So I’m not going to have high hopes for the book version. Obviously, everyone knows the book is ALWAYS better, but I know The Mist is one of King’s lesser popular novels. But it was hard picking an 80s book that I thought I might like!
A Book You Meant to Read in 2017 But Didn’t Get To
I AM SO EXCITED FOR THIS BOOK! I added it as an extra in my Book of the Month February box and I have heard nothing but AMAZING things about it so far! It was a Goodreads Choice Award finalist, so I know that a lot of readers really enjoyed this one. The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo is another book that I haven’t read the synopsis for, which is a little bold since I now own a copy, but I’m confident I will enjoy every minute of it!
A Book With an Ugly Cover
Do you know how hard it is to find a book with an ugly cover?! Pretty damn hard! White Rose Black Forest isn’t exactly ugly looking, but it’s not the prettiest book I’ve ever seen. And I have been looking forward to this book to come out this year, so I knew I had to find a place for it on my list. I chose it as my Amazon Kindle First pick for February, and it centers around World War II, which is one of my favorite historical fiction eras!
A Book That involves a Bookstore or Library
I don’t know why, but a lot of books on this list are ones that I have NO IDEA what they’re about! I’m going in blind with Midnight at the Bright Ideas Bookstore as well. I’ve heard a lot about it on Goodreads, and the cover has already attracted my attention, so I’m just gonna go for it and hope for the best! Luckily, I’ll be borrowing it from the library so I don’t have to actually commit to it just yet!
Your Favorite Prompt from the 2015, 2016 or 2017 POPSUGAR Reading Challenge
So my favorite prompt after looking at previous challenges was a book set in two different time periods (obviously). I just can’t get away from historical fiction! The Broken Girls was the perfect book to finish off my POPSUGAR Reading Challenge! Book of the Month offered it as an exclusive selection for its members and I had to choose it! It’s coming out on March 20th, so it’s waiting for me to read it on my bookshelf!
And THAT is my POPSUGAR Reading Challenge 2018 in its entirety! Whew! Thank goodness I didn’t put ALL of these 40 books into one list. Are you also participating in the POPSUGAR Reading Challenge this year? Or are you participating in another challenge? What kinds of books did you choose for your own prompts? Let me know below and happy reading!
