Mini Book Haul & Life Update

Mini Book Haul and Life Update

Life Update

Happy Saturday! I am SO GLAD IT’S THE WEEKEND YOU HAVE NO IDEA!! I’ve been super stressed out at work this week, so those bottles of wine I received for Christmas are mysteriously disappearing. I’ve also been in a mood funk for the past week or two. It was my birthday on Tuesday, but I honestly didn’t even care I was so stressed out. I’m struggling trying to think up some blog posts for the coming weeks, but I just can’t focus! What do you all do when you get into a funk like this? Nothing like this has ever really happened to me before, and since my blog is fairly new, any advice would be extremely helpful.

I got a promotion at work this past week, but since work has been my main source of stress, that really doesn’t matter too much for me. Ugh I feel like I can ramble on all day, but I’ll keep this depressing portion short and sweet!

Mini Book Haul: January 12th

On to the better part of this post: books books books!! I can’t stop buying books, requesting books, acquiring books, you name it! Now, a little backstory. I signed up for Goodreads Deals, which means every day I get eBook deals in my inbox for books that are less than $5. Both my Black Friday Book Haul and my Post-Holiday Book Haul have eBooks that I bought for less than $5 each, and now I’m seriously considering stopping these emails so I don’t know these books are on sale and impulse-buy! Although this is a mini book haul, I’m still buying too many books that I really don’t need.

Breakfast at Tiffany’s by Truman Capote: $2.99

Breakfast at Tiffany's

This was one of the books I randomly bought while eating my lunch. I hate to admit it but I’ve never read this book before! The movie is fantastic and I’ve always wanted to, but I’ve never given it the time. So I added it to my POPSUGAR Reading Challenge this year as “A Book with Song Lyrics in the Title.” And, naturally, it was on sale at Amazon! I was planning on reading it anyway, so now at least I get to keep the copy instead of returning it to the library!

Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel: $2.99

Station Eleven

I’m still not sure why I bought this book. Thank goodness it was inexpensive, but regardless it still looks pretty good! It’s got the dystopian fantasy aspect going for it, but I love that it isn’t Young Adult Dystopian. Sorry to all YA fans out there, but I’m just not a fan. That being said, I planned on expanding my reading this year, so the science fiction/dystopian novel may be the perfect read for me to explore other genres. I probably could have just borrowed it from the library, but too late now!

This may not seem like a huge book haul, but it now brings my TBR to 148 books! This also may not seem like a lot, but it’s because I’ve been holding back quite a bit on books I want to read. There are WAY MORE I want to read, but I’m really trying hard to restrain myself. Have you put yourself on a book-buying ban?? I’m considering it myself! Anyways, happy reading!!

  1. Uhg! I get those emails too! Ever since I got my kindle (for my birthday, two weeks ago) I have been requested and buying ebooks like CRAZY! I was literally a click away from purchasing Station Eleven too! But somehow I held out… looking at this post now is making me envious and regretting not buying that one too…

      1. Haha I totally understand what you mean. It is a very intense love/hate relationship with buying books. On one hand, I like being surrounded by them, having them in hand, but on the other…UHG!

  2. Oh my. I never realized the Audrey Hepburn Breakfast at Tiffany’s was based on a book. I’m quite excited to learn that. Will check it out and hope to see your review whenever you get to it.
Hope work eases up for you soon.

  3. I read Station Eleven a month ago. It was one of those quick reads that left me with the feeling of “what did just happen?” … 😀
    Enjoy your new books!
