Happy Monday everyone! Unfortunately it’s not so great for me. I’m stuck with a nasty sinus infection that I just can’t shake! But, that means more Monday reading for me. I’m chugging away trying to get in as many books as possible before we start a whole new year, so I’m thankful for this day off where I can relax, get better and read a good book!
One exciting thing that happened this weekend is my BF came home from St. Thomas!!! He was gone for almost exactly two months, and he finally arrived Saturday night! I couldn’t be happier, and I love that he made it home just in time for Christmas!
It’s Monday: What Are You Reading? is hosted by Kathryn @ The Book Date where I write about the books that have been taking up my time this past week. Plus I’ll discuss what I’m planning on reading in the future. Here we go!
What I Finished Reading This Week
I managed to get through three books this week! I’m literally on a roll in December, and a lot of the books I’ve chosen this month have been knockouts. This has been a really amazing reading month so far!
A Map of the Dark by Karen Ellis
I requested this title on Netgalley a few months ago, and honestly I regret it. I struggled to get through this book, so I ended up skimming most of it. It’s the first in a new series focused on a missing girl and a federal agent who is good at locating missing kids. The premise sounds great, and the central plot itself was very good, but I couldn’t get past all of the background noise that was the detective’s home life and secretive past. I felt that it was too much of a distraction.
Demon, Interrupted by Elliot Parker
I was sent this book by the author through my blog, and I finally got around to reading it this week. I was really invested in this one! The story itself centers around young woman who is a descendant of St. Anthony, the Patron Saint of lost objects, and it’s more of a fantasy story with angels and demons fighting over this woman’s power of locating missing objects. It’s the first in a series as well, and I’m looking forward to reading the next installments!
The Radium Girls: The Dark Story of America’s Shining Women by Kate Moore
I am so amazed by this story! Kate Moore gives us the tale of numerous young women who worked in factories painting dials with radium paint. Slowly these women began to experience serious illnesses and pains, and they all fought back against their employers for compensation. Although this story was incredibly sad and tragic (I was in tears through most of it!) it had such a heartwarming quality as well. Kate Moore gave these girls a voice that I will never be able to forget!
What I’m Currently Reading
Little Broken Things by Nicole Baart
This was the book chosen for Salt Water Reads on Instagram. Every month I’ve read with them has been such a phenomenal book choice! So I just HAD to get my hands on this book, which was hard since it’s been sold out more often than on the shelves! I managed to snag a copy, however, and so far I am loving it!
What I Plan on Reading Next
This usually focuses on what I plan on reading this next week, but since we’re almost to the end, I figured I would share my end-of-the-year reading list! I’ve got a bunch of books lined up in the hopes that I’ll get most of them finished by January 1st, but you never know!
Orphan, Monster, Spy by Matt Killeen
This book has been sitting on my shelf for way too long, so I plan on making this my next read. I got it for free at NYCC over two months ago, and its release date is getting awfully close! Although it’s a YA novel (I’m not a fan of YA…) the premise looks really interesting, so I’m looking forward to it!
Force of Nature (Aaron Falk #2) by Jane Harper
I won this in a Goodreads Giveaway, and its release date is coming up soon. I want to try to get all of my ARCs read before I buy any more books (impossible!). The Dry was very good, although I found it to be a bit slow in the beginning. It eventually picked up pace and I really liked Aaron Falk’s character, so I’m excited to read about his next adventure!
Watching Glass Shatter by James J. Cudney
This has been on my list long enough. So I’m reading it before the year is out. I’m doing it. Seriously. I have read so many awesome reviews of this book, and the cover is so amazingly stunning, that I have a feeling this is going to be an amazing book! Plus, I planned to read this in my December TBR so I have no choice but to get to it now.
How to Stop Time by Matt Haig
I got this book in a Goodreads Giveaway as well, and I’d really like to get to it before I start all of my ARCs in January. I LOVE the gorgeous color of this cover, and this story has a very Benjamin Button feel to it. The main character never ages, and he has lived throughout all manner of centuries and history. Looks like a good one!
And that’s all! I’m really hoping I can get through all of these books before the New Year, but I know I’m more optimistic than realistic. If I can get through at least 2, then I know I’ll end the month on a good note! What are you guys reading right now? Do you have book plans through the end of the year? Let me know! Happy Monday!!
