Goodreads Challenge Update 2017

Happy Veterans Day!

First and foremost, I want to wish everyone a Happy Veterans Day! Thank you to all of the veterans out there that have served. Your sacrifices are never forgotten, and today we celebrate you.

Happy Veterans Day

So it’s a very chilly Saturday here, so staying indoors and in my comfy bed is imperative for me right now. So I decided to go over my Goodreads account to pass some time! If you haven’t seen my Book Challenge on my sidebar, I recently completed my Goodreads Reading Challenge this year and have a serious question…

Should I Adjust My Goodreads Reading Challenge?

I chose to read a total of 50 books this year. It’s my first year setting a goal on Goodreads, so I really had no idea where to start with it. I figured 50 sounded like a good number, so I went with it. Obviously, it’s only midway through November, and I still have a huge stack of books to get to before the end of the year. So now I’m curious – should I adjust that number and make it a little higher? Or should I just leave it be and try for a much higher number next year?

I know. It sounds like a stupid question, but I’m just wondering what other people choose to do. I never thought I would get through 50 books this year, but getting a library card really pushed me to read more!

Life Update

So I’ve been quite bored in recent weeks. My boyfriend has left Puerto Rico for the sandy beaches of St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands. It’s going on three weeks since he left, and I really haven’t done much except blog and read, then repeat! Which is fine with me, but I’m realizing I can’t pine away at home waiting for him to return. I planned on making the most of my time this week, but then I got a sinus infection! I just can’t win. So I’ve been confined to my bed with books and tea for most of the week, which is fine by me!

TV Shows I’m Enjoying

I’ve been steadily watching Stranger Things season 2. I didn’t want to binge-watch the whole season then be left waiting a whole year for a new season, so I’ve been trying to do one to two episodes a week. I plan on watching episode 4 later tonight, and I’m excited to keep going! It’s so hard to just not watch the whole thing in one sitting, but I love that I’m slowly digesting each episode. The season is getting really interesting, and I LOVED the Halloween episode where the four boys dressed up as Ghostbusters! How much more 80s can this show get?!

The Walking Dead has been fairly action-packed so far this season, but I’m still not loving the vibe of the show. It’s typical for the beginning of the seasons to be a little slow before they pick up, but I’m just not sure I love it yet. I guess I’m just waiting for the other shoe to drop…

Vikings will be picking up in about two weeks on History Channel. This is one of my favorite shows, and I’m looking forward to seeing what happens now that a familiar face is missing! (No spoilers here!!) Lagertha is obviously my favorite character, so I hope she makes it through this season!

  1. At the beginning of the year I set my Goodreads goal to 50 as well but when I saw that I was going to be hitting that goal pretty early I upped it to 60. I reached that goal either last month or the month before but I decided not to up it again. I just figure I will see how much over my goal I read this year and then use that to determine my goal for next year.

  2. You could up your goal if you wanted to, but if you keep it Goodreads will tell you how many books over your goal you read and you can adjust it for next year. 😊

    1. It’s seriously hard to hold back and not binge Stranger Things, so I’m really proud that I’m taking my time! Vikings can get a bit gory at times, but because the Vikings were pretty gory people, it’s no surprise. There are some pretty cringe-worthy moments, but it’s worth it for me!

  3. Ha the only advice on Goodreads challenge would be don’t fret! It’s been years now since I haven’t reached my challenge so what? Since blogging my challenge has fallen as it takes many hours to blog, hours I used previously to read. As I have another “real” work and a family I have ironically less time to read now.

  4. I say leave it. then you get to like 150% complete and feel awesome.

I think my initial goal was 52 books but then I added bunch when I decided to read the entire Series of Unfortunate Events and a bunch of Death Note too, because they were so short. I ended up making 70 my new goal and I’m on track to hit over 100, so that might be my goal for next year.

  5. Thanks for the heads up on Vikings! We love that one and I have been wondering when it would be back. Seems like it has been on hiatus a really, really long time. I too am a Lagatha fan 🙂

  6. It’s not a stupid thing to question at all, because I did the exact same thing last year! My reading goal for 2017 is, likes yours, 50 and I’m about three away from completing that goal. I was very ambitious at the beginning of the year and set it to 150 because I’m not good with numbers…I soon realized that it wasn’t a realistic number 😛 Then it was 100 -> 80 -> 50 😛
I’m sorry to hear about your sinus infection! Have you got a steam inhaler? That might ease the pain and discomfort somewhat!

  7. I wouldn’t adjust your goal. It is nice to see where your head was at in the beginning of the year, and see how much more you were capable of! I would leave it, and just have a bigger goal for next year, that is what I am doing. I am actually 7 over my original goal as of right now, and I also have a stack to go still. Plus it is nice to see that check mark on your list, you know?
